Betaine (trimethylglycine) is a modified amino acid that typically functions as a co-factor in many reactions essential to normal cellular function, including the synthesis of creatine, carnitine, and epinephrine, as well as the detoxification of homocysteine. Betaine also helps maintain cell volume and function under the stress of intense exercise.
