Research reports indicate that "Apple Pectin" can be converted into "Butyrate". |
Apple pectin is a water-soluble fiber that forms a gel when mixed with water. As a dietary fiber supplement, this apple pectin product helps support gut health.
Apple pectin has been shown in research reports to convert into butyrate.
A 2008 study by scholars indicated that butyrate plays a major role in the short-chain fatty acids formed by the colonic microbiota. It is considered an important nutrient for the colonic mucosa and has been shown to trigger differentiation and apoptosis in colon-derived cells in culture. The inhibitory effect on histone deacetylase (HDAC) appears to play a central role in these actions. Therefore, butyrate is recommended as a chemopreventive metabolite that can prevent the occurrence of colorectal cancer. Some polymeric carbohydrates (such as pectin), which are resistant to digestion in the small intestine, have been shown to serve as substrates for butyrate formation by the colonic microbiota.
They found that FSs obtained from pectin fermentation were rich in butyrate and exhibited highly active HDAC inhibition in intact nuclear extracts prepared from HT-29 and Caco-2 human colon cancer cell lines and in an HDAC inhibition-driven reporter gene in intact HeLa Mad 38 cells. Butyrate levels explained most of the HDAC inhibitory capacity in pectin-rich fermented FSs. Furthermore, FSs were not cytotoxic at HDAC inhibitory concentrations.
